Since the 1960s, Shimadzu’s worldwide operations have been steadily expanding to meet the needs of growing international markets. Today, in addition to head office and extensive research and manufacturing facilities in Japan., Shimadzu’s network includes offices, factories, research centre, training centre and subsidiary companies in North America, Latin America, Europe, China, the Asia-Oceania region and the Middle East.
ln a constantly changing world, Shimadzu is embracing new ideas, technologies and opportunities so that the changing needs of the evolving marketplace can be met. As the new millennium commences, the vision for the future of the Corporation that wilt keep it at the forefront of technology in the 21st century has been developed. This blue-print for the future – the “Shimadzu Strategy 2001” – is outlined in the final section of this book.

In reinforcing the international competitiveness of the products, through development of the company’s global strategies of technological development, worldwide production, sales and marketing, technical support and applications, the global organization is being redefined.
The company is actively contributing technological assistance to developing countries through such organizations as Official Development Assistance (ODA), and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). By delivering equipment to research institutes, universities and hospitals in all countries, an improvement of the techno-logical levels, health care and wellbeing in each of these countries is being wet' served.
Shimadzu Australia Manufacturing Pty Ltd. – Est. 1994
Substantial bases have been established around the world: in the United States, England, Germany, Singapore, the Philippines and Australia. For example, Shimadzu Australia Manufacturing (SAM), one of the largest facilities outside of Japan, serves to increase productivity and reduce production costs. The International Procurement Office in Singapore (IPO) is a cost-effective source of materials for Shimadzu manufacturing facilities around the world.
Shimadzu’s Distributor and Dealer Network, serving as agents and marketing outlets throughout the world, exceeds two hundred companies. This further contributes to technological exchange as does the dispatch of research staff to various institutes and international academic societies.
