<p>Shimadzu’s New HMV-G30 / HMV-G31Series Micro Vickers Hardness Testers Include New Data Protection Functions and a Model Equipped with a Color Camera</p>



<p>Shimadzu has released the HMV-G30 / HMV-G31 series micro Vickers hardness testers. They are equipped with new functions to improve data reliability, can accommodate ISO standards related to Vickers hardness tests, and offer high expandability.</p>



<p>A micro Vickers hardness tester measures Vickers hardness at tiny test force levels. A regular quadrangular pyramidal diamond, referred to as an indenter, applies a force to a sample. The hardness of the sample can be calculated by measuring the indentation formed on the surface. This type of tester is used in a wide range of industries for inspections of steel, metal materials and mechanical parts, as well as for evaluation of surface improvements such as platings and heat treatments. In recent years, there has been a need for stronger data management, improved operability, and enhanced functions that suit the application.</p>



<p>The Shimadzu HMV-G30 / HMV-G31 series is compliant with measurements at low test forces in accordance with ISO standards related to Vickers hardness tests. Protective functions to heighten data reliability, as well as report creation functions, are also included. Additionally, a motorized micrometer for adjusting the position of the stage can be added, and a model equipped with a 5 megapixel color camera, the best in the industry, has been added to the series.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Features of the New Product</h2>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">1. Newly Equipped with Protective Functions to Heighten Data Reliability</h3>



<p>New functions limit unnecessary data editing, leading to better, more reliable data. For example, one function automatically records who is implementing the test, while another one requires the entry of a password when repeating measurements.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">2. Compliant with Measurements at Low Test Forces, in Accordance with ISO Standards</h3>



<p>The testers are compliant as standard with measurements at the low test force value of 1 g, in accordance with ISO6507-1 and ISO6507-2, standards related to Vickers hardness tests.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">3. System Configurations to Suit the Objective</h3>



<p>In addition to adding a model with a 5 megapixel color camera, the best in the industry, an optional micrometer for making motorized adjustments to the position of the stage can now be introduced. The system can be configured to suit the application and the user.</p>

<p>A new evaluation system for measuring the material strength of micro regions, such as semiconductors, LSI, ceramics, hard disks, vapor deposited films, and thin coating layers, not addressed by previous hardness testers. It can also be used to evaluate the hardness of plastics and rubbers.</p>

<h3 class="heading-normal">Powerful Tools for Surface Strength Evaluations on Every Type of Material</h3>
<p>This instrument uniquely measures dynamic indentation depth, not the indentation after the test. This in turn permits measurement of very thin films and surface (treatment) layers that are impossible to measure with conventional methods. Additionally, this same method supplies the data needed to calculate elastic modulus on the test specimens.</p>

<h3 class="heading-normal">Applications</h3>
<p><strong>Metal Materials :&nbsp;</strong>Capable of measuring micro-structure constituent components within a sample, not just overall hardness.</p>
<p><strong>Plastics :&nbsp;</strong>Measurement of materials exhibiting high light absorption, which is difficult for conventional methods, is easily performed on the DUH-211 series.</p>
<p><strong>Rubbers and Elastomers :&nbsp;</strong>Rubber hardness has traditionally been measured under a set of fixed conditions according to JIS K6301/ISO7619 using a rubber hardness tester. Now, the DUH-211 permits measurement of this same amterial under various different sets of conditions. Additionally, this instrument also permits hardness measurement of the surface layers alone, thus providing useful information for the study of surface deterioration.</p>
<p><strong>Glasses and Ceramics :&nbsp;</strong>The DUH is capable of measuring brittle samples, such as glass and ceramics, either with or without forming cracks.</p>
<p><strong>Thin Films :&nbsp;</strong>Measuring the strength of film coatings produced by chemical vapor deposition (CVD), physical vapor deposition (PVD), or surface layers treated by ion implantation, is important for improving film production techniques. Since the DUH-211 is able to measure using ultra-low loads, it is ideal for this application.</p>
<p><strong>Fibers :&nbsp;</strong>The DUH-211 provides useful information for strength evaluation testing on glass fibers, carbon fibers, whiskers, fibers made of other composite materials, and optical fibers.</p>
<p><strong>Electronic Parts such as IC and LSI :&nbsp;</strong>Hardness is an important factor for the evaluation of reliability of LSI and other electronic elements. The DUH-211 permits easy hardness testing of the desired parts of the pattern on an IC or LSI.</p>
<p><strong>Particulate Matter :&nbsp;</strong>Use of the optional flat-tip indenter provides easy measurement of particle proof stress. This data is useful for improvement of the pretreatment technique or fine particles.</p>
