<p>The presence of microplastics in environmental surface water such as oceans, rivers, and lakes has attracted international attention as an environmental problem, and many monitoring results have been reported.<br>The analysis of microplastics requires multiple steps, including sample collection, digestion and filtration, and qualitative and quantitative (size, number of particles, mass or concentration) analysis.<br>To accurately analyze microplastics in aqueous samples, an essential step is to isolate the particles from other components in the sample. This process normally involves digestion and separation steps.<br>The MAP-100 automates the typical steps needed to isolate microplastics. This improves the reproducibility of the analytical workflow, enables lab technicians to focus on other tasks, and makes handling of reagents safer.</p>

<p>The sample collected from the environmental surface water is placed inside the reaction vessel in the automatic preparation device. The control software is used to configure the conditions for each preparation step via digestion, separation, and overflow. When the preparation process is started, the microplastics are automatically collected through the processes of (1) Digestion, (2) Separation and (3) Filtration as shown below.</p>

<p>When analyzing plastics, libraries are used to qualify their material properties. However, infrared spectra of plastics that have been denatured (have deteriorated) due to heat or UV rays differ in shape from standard spectra, and qualifying them can sometimes be difficult.<br>To address this, the Plastic Analyzer includes a deterioration library, so highly accurate qualification can be performed reflecting the state of deterioration.</p>

This proprietary Shimadzu library includes the IR spectra for plastics degraded by UV rays for the equivalent of approximately 10 years using a super accelerated weathering chamber from Iwasaki Electric Co., Ltd.</p>

<p>The 100 %T line was obtained by successively measuring the background and sample values without placing a&nbsp;sample in the sample compartment. Excluding the peaks for water vapor and carbon dioxide, the noise level (P-P value) was within ±0.005 %T, which shows that it can acquire data with low noise.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>55,000:1 S/N Enables Ultra-High-Sensitivity MeasurementsUsing the IRXross with a single-reflection ATR attachment, an oil stain on paper was analyzed. Analyzing the sample directly without pretreatment would not result in good peaks, so n-hexane was applied to the stained area to extract the stain substances. Then a drop of the extract solution was placed on the ATR prism for analysis. The system is able to detect even the extremely weak 0.00023 absorbance signal with good sensitivity.</li><li></li></ul>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>0.25 cm<sup>-1</sup>&nbsp;Resolution Enables High-Resolution MeasurementsN<sub>2</sub>O gas (500 ppm), considered an environmental problem as a greenhouse gas, was analyzed. Measuring the gas at high resolution shows the peaks near 2,230 cm<sup>-1</sup>&nbsp;properly separated, whereas a resolution of 1.0 cm<sup>-1</sup>&nbsp;only shows the peaks as two levels.</li><li></li></ul>

<p>The interferometer of IRAffinity-1S is continuously optimized by a dynamic alignment mechanism, and a built-in Automatic Dehumidifier helps ensure ease of maintenance. The IRAffinity-1S offers the high SN ratio (30,000:1, 1-minute accumulation, neighborhood of 2,100 cm<sup>-1</sup>, peak-to-peak), a maximum resolution of 0.5 cm<sup>-1</sup>, and compact dimensions. Furthermore, the high-performance LabSolutions IR software, which emphasizes operability, and analysis support programs (Contaminant analysis program and Pharma Report program) make it easier to perform data processing and analysis.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Reliable performance and easy maintenance</h2>



<p>Through the incorporation of a high-energy ceramic light source, a temperature-controlled, high-sensitivity DLATGS detector, a high-throughput optical element, and the optimization of the electrical system and optical system, the IRAffinity-1S achieves the highest SN ratio in its class.</p>



<p>Beam splitters in the interferometers of FTIR instruments are susceptible to humidity. In order to maintain the long-term stability of the interferometer, the beam splitter must be protected.<br>In the IRAffinity-1S, the interferometer is airtight and incorporates a unique internal auto dryer.</p>



<p>An automatic dehumidifier and dynamic alignment enable easy maintenance of the interferometer.</p>

<p>Achieving reproducible optical interference in a spectrophotometer requires a robust interferometer design. The interferometer in the IRTracer-100 easily meets this requirement. The smooth moving mirror system monitored by the Advanced Dynamic Alignment system allows the IRTracer-100 to provide optimum and stable quality spectra after only a short warm-up time. Sampling at over 5000 times /second the Advanced Dynamic Alignment keeps the IRTracer-100 in optimum operating condition. In addition, the Advanced Dynamic Alignment system automatically aligns the interferometer when the beam splitter is changed for NIR or FIR analysis.</p>
