From the initial production of reciprocating vacuum pumps in
1881 and the manufacture of industrial machinery and instrumentation
in 1920, Shimadzu has grown to become one of the world’s major
manufacturers of advanced industrial equipment and systems.
With more than a century of experience and commitment to research

performance-enhancing equipment for a variety of industrial applications

For the large and expanding field of semiconductor production,
Shimadzu has developed the highly specialized equipment needed to
forge new frontiers in microchip and solar cell development. This
includes ECR plasma Chemical Vapour Deposition apparatus, turbo-molecular
pumps, teak detectors and liquid crystal injectors. The constant
search for technological advancement in this field has led to the
increasing use of mechatronics and automation to provide even greater
efficiencies of performance in these products.
The company has a long history in the development of breakthrough
technology in high vacuum equipment, going back to the earliest
pumps in 1908. State-of-the-art vacuum equipment today includes
magnetically levitated turbo-molecular pumps and solid-state heliurn
teak detectors. With vacuum equipment so indispensable in leading
technologies, the company is devoting considerable resources to
the continuing development of new products for these applications.
Shimadzu was the first manufacturer in Japan to produce these products
and now has a well-established presence in Silicon Valley in the
