The state-of-the-art aviation technologies of Shimadzu are incorporated into the latest Boeing passenger aircraft as well as business aircraft such as Cessna and Dessault. Design and manufacture of testing and medical systems equipment used to train flight crew under simulated flight conditions is also well established.

Today, Shimadzu provides the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) with a range of functional components to control rockets and satellite positioning. As part of the continuing contribution to aerospace technology, Shimadzu is involved in an international space station project being promoted by 16 member countries. This is due to begin operation early in the 21st century.

The benefits achieved through the production of aircraft equipment have found application in the development of consumer products utilizing advanced optical and electronic technology. A virtual reality application of Shimadzu’s Head Up Display (HUD) technologies were the first such systems produced in Japan.

Another application of HUD technology is used in car navigation systems. By projecting the navigation information directly into the line-of-sight of the driver, the need to took down is overcome. This product is currently supplied on an OEM basis to one of the world’s major manufacturers of car navigation systems.

Shimadzu’s broadening range of technologies has made a valuable contribution to the development of the aviation and aerospace industries worldwide. With innovative research and development and total commitment to quality and service, the company should continue its leadership into the 21st century.
