Chapter 1

                  Basics of GC

Shimadzu’s Fundamental Guide to GCMS begins with the basics of GC.
This chapter includes a brief history of GC and its development and details
the separation principle and instrumentation. Due to GC’s unique
characteristics, the instrument is often used for the analysis of small and
volatile compounds and is widely applicable in many industries such as
food, environmental testing, pharmaceuticals, petroleum, pesticides and
                  fragrances.
