Biodiesel
Biodiesel
is alkyl esters that made from the transesterification of animal
fats, algae, vegetable oil including used vegetable oil. The triglycerides
within these fat and oil were transesterified with methanol or ethanol
in presence of usually basic catalyst, NaOH to fatty acid methyl
ester (FAME) or fatty acid ethyl ester, depended on used methanol
or ethanol in the process. There are glycerol is by product.

Vegetable
oil that used in Biodiesel production;
Oil palm is popular
plant to produced Biodiesel in Thailand because it planted
in the south of Thailand and gave higher oil production than
other plants.
Physic nut or Jatropha
is a non-edible plant, belonging to the Euphobiaceae family.
Extracted oil from Jatropha seed can use in low speed diesel
engine in farm, farming truck. However, Jatropha species is
toxic to animal and human, Hydrocyanic acid and Curcin. It
is carefully extract and use.
Several vegetable
oils such as coconut oil, soy bean oil, rapeseed oil and sunflower
oil are raw materials for Biodiesel production. In the other
choice, grease and oil from cow can use for production. |
Biodiesel produced from
microalgae such as green algae, diatoms. These microalgae are fast
growing marine and fresh water plants. Photosynthesis of algae use
energy from the sun combines water with carbon dioxide to create
biomass. Diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) store carbon in the form of
natural oil or as a polymer of carbohydrate known as chrysolamonarin.
And green algae (Chrorophyceae) storage in the form of starch, though
oil can be produced under certain condition. Now, The USA developed
of algae faming to higher oil production for Biodiesel production
